Book vs Film

Question 1. SETTING:Places Where does the classical play and the new version take place?
Verona Beach is a fictional Californian town.

- A swimming pool is used for the ' balcony scene'.

( this is a real balcony of Romeo and Juliet)




(this is in the film)

- The film shows a petrol station and in the book isn't there

- Romeo and Juliet First Meeting Scene.( the aquarium)

Question 2.. IMAGERY: metaphors and images in the film: WATER (swimming pool, beach, aquarium...) and FIRE (petrol station, fights...), DAY and NIGHT, the MOON. What do they mean?

WATER: The river is the life.When the river arrive at the sea the life is finish.
FIRE: the most dangerous part of the person.
DAY: In the day lovers are separated.
NIGHT: In the night lovers are toghter again.
MOON: All the lovers swear to the full moon. ( A lot poets talken about the moon).

Question 3.. LANGUAGE. Which characters speak in verse and which in prose?

Who is the narrator? The all characters talken in verse and the narrator talks in prose / omniscience narrator.

Question 4. THE FANCY DRESS PARTY. Are the costumes important?

Yes. In the book romeo have a mask when he meet juliet, but in the film when the party starts he have a mask, then when he see juliet he doesn't wear a mask.

Question 5. ELEMENTS. To make the new version, basic elements have been changed.

Sword vs bun, carriage vs car, in the house's Capulet are a refrigerator, television, lamps... But in that time this invents aren't exist.

Question 6. Other differences of the classical version and the film version.

We said the differences in the other questions.
